This two part video from my friend, journalist and filmmaker Juliana Jimenez documents an amazing trip taken by the Umoja Orchestra to rural China. Ravaged by earthquakes and the pressure for adults to seek work in urban areas, the children of these villages are suffering a severe lack of extra-curricular activity and inspiration. This group of musicians and teachers visit 9 school, teaching Latin music and dance (Cuban Son, Colombian Cumbia, and Dominican Merengue) to incredible ends….MUSICWORKS certainly needs to partner with these guys!

MUSICWORKS brings interactive arts education into the lives of creative students. We act locally by presenting arts workshops to diverse school populations and pairing students with professionals through shared concerts. We act globally by sending teaching volunteers, supplies, medicine, and instruments to underprivileged populations in Latin America. Donations to MUSICWORKS support lessons, scholarships, equipment, and creative arts education!
