MUSICWORKS' [local/global] EVENTS BLOG:

MUSICWORKS brings interactive arts education into the lives of creative students. We act locally by presenting arts workshops to diverse school populations and pairing students with professionals through shared concerts. We act globally by sending teaching volunteers, supplies, medicine, and instruments to underprivileged populations in Latin America. Donations to MUSICWORKS support lessons, scholarships, equipment, and creative arts education!

Below are photos from our work in NYC, Ecuador (Summer 2009, Spring 2010, Spring 2011), and Guatemala (Summer, 2010).

On December 13th and 14th, 2011 there will be a lot of love in the room at 125 5th Ave in Park Slope. Eight diverse bands are coming together to play a very special two-day concert at Southpaw in Brooklyn, New York. Lost Pilot will be there to film both days and produce a striking documentation of this creatively fertile period in time.
    The bands are:

    BEYONDO

    HI/LO FI

    KNIGHTS ON EARTH

MICHAEL LEONHART AND THE AVRAMINA 7

    MINERVA LIONS

    SMOOTA

    SUPERHUMAN HAPPINESS

    THOUGHT

We are making a film called “All Together Now” and its intention is to reveal a cross-section of a strong musical community. The film will capture each band’s live set and take you backstage to sit with musicians who tour all over the world and who’s passion lives in the bands they’ve developed back at home in New York City. Their stories are as diverse as their music.

The inspiration for this project came from some of the great rock and roll films of the last 40 years. Movies like Woodstock, Stop Making Sense, The Song Remains The Same, The Last Waltz, The Rolling Stones’ Rock and Roll Circus, Downtown 81, Monterey Pop, and the Isle Of Wight led us to the realization that we needed to continue the tradition and that the story was right in front of us. After seeing this blend of musicians in different forms, we realized how inspired we were by the rich community in our own city.

One of the more intriguing elements to this collection of artists is how they use each other’s talents in different ways. You’ll see quite a few of these characters playing multiple roles throughout the film. A few of these bands have been at it for over a decade, while others are relatively newer endeavors. One thing all of these musicians have in common is their capacity for sweat-drenched and soul-bearing live performances. The music will guide you through myriad emotions, peaks, valleys, light and dark.

We want to create a lasting piece that can be enjoyed for generations to come. The biggest hurdles we are facing right now have to do with financing, but with your help we know we will be able to see this vision through. The money we raise will go directly into the film. None of the musicians participating in this project are being paid, everyone who is performing is doing so with the hope and confidence that we will make a great movie. The basic costs we hope to cover with the Kickstarter campaign include:

    Cameras
    Camera Operators
    Audio engineers
    The Venue
    Lighting
    Editors
    Computer Hardware and Software
    Publicity
    DVD+CD Mixing
    Mastering
    Pressing
    Promotional Materials
The musicians featured in All Together Now have performed and/or recorded with an impressive list of artists that include: Phish, TV on the Radio, Antibalas, Iron & Wine, Steely Dan, Sufjan Stevens, The Monkees, Charlie Hunter, Spoon, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bill Withers, A Tribe Called Quest, David Byrne, The Roots, Paul Simon, Brazilian Girls, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Red Baraat, Fela! the Musical, SNL, and even Sesame Street.

Be a part of this project with us. Help us make it. Come see the shows. Be in the film with us and experience history in the making!

If you can’t be here with us on December 13th and 14th, you can still be a part of it by pledging. There are some really cool rewards you will only be able to get through donating to this campaign, like posters, signed box sets, and even private concerts. You could even become a producer.
